FAQ'sWhat is a party Primary election? The two principal political parties are required by law to choose their candidates for the general election in primary elections. Although it is up to the parties to decide who may vote in their primaries, generally only registered voters affiliated with a principal political party may vote in that party's primary election. How can I vote in a party primary election? Generally, you must be registered with a political party to take part in the party's primary election. All voters in Maryland use the same voting system. For polling place voting, voters use a touchscreen voting system by Premier Election Solutions (AccuVote-TS). With a touchscreen voting system, a voter touches the screen to make, change, and review selections and cast a ballot. A demonstration of how to vote on Maryland's touchscreen voting system is available.
