Beginning on the Wednesday before an election through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, a registered voter or the voter's duly authorized agent may apply for an absentee ballot in person at the Local County Board of Elections.

You can either download an application now (link to pdf of application) (formulario y instrucciones disponibles también en español) or obtain one from your county Board of Elections.

You or your duly authorized agent must hand deliver the completed application to your county Board of Elections. You or your agent will receive your absentee ballot once the completed application has been delivered.

Use of an Agent

You may designate someone to pick up the absentee ballot and deliver your voted absentee ballot. To designate someone to serve as your agent, you must complete the "Designation of Agent by Voter" section of the application.

The agent:

bulletMust be at least 18 years old;
bulletMay not be a candidate on your ballot;
bulletMust sign an affidavit, under penalty of perjury, that the ballot was:
bulletMarked and placed in an envelope by the voter, or with assistance as allow, in the agent's presence; and
bulletReturned to the county Board of Elections by the agent no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Assistance

If you have a disability or are unable to read or write, someone may assist you in completing the application. If you are unable to sign the application, the person assisting may sign your name and must write his or her initials beside your signature. The person assisting you complete this application must complete the "Certification of Assistance" portion of the application.

How do I fill out my absentee ballot?

Examine your ballot before voting. If both sides are printed, vote both sides. If there are four columns on a side, vote all four columns.

bulletTo record a vote, completely fill in the oval to the left of your choice.
bulletWARNING: Use only a No. 2 pencil. Other marking instruments may not produce a mark that will be accurately counted.
bulletDo not vote for more candidates than the number specified over the names of the candidates for each office. (You may vote for fewer than specified if you wish.)
bulletWrite-in voting is permitted only in general elections. General Election ballots provide a designated space in each contest for casting a write-in vote. To cast a write-in vote, you must (a) record the last name and first name, or at least the last name and the initial of the first name, of the person for whom you wish to vote on the appropriate line, and (b) completely fill in the oval to the left of the name you have written.
bulletDo not place any mark of identification on the ballot.
